Keep Austin (and Your Couples Photos) Weird: Why You Should Plan Activities for the Couples Shoot of Your Dreams

When Brennan and Neallie suggested their house as the setting for a couples photoshoot, I knew immediately it was going to be something special. They had just moved in together—such a sweet milestone that deserves to be documented just as much as an engagement or wedding. I’m all about capturing every chapter of your love story, not just the ones with a ring 💍

Love Lives Here: Documenting Your First Home Together

Their cozy house in Austin, Texas was filled with personality and charm—plants with teeny cowboy hats (iconic), a sparkling disco ball in the kitchen, a pink chess set, flame sunglasses for their dog Mayla, and yes... a Supreme toilet in the guest bathroom. The vibe? Pure Austin energy.

Every detail screamed them, and it was so important to me to reflect that in their photos. These weren’t just pictures—they were moments of their everyday magic. Brennan and Neallie’s connection is playful, passionate, and quirky in the best way. Capturing them dancing under the disco ball, flipping off the camera (in their signature photo pose, obviously), and kissing over the chess set? Literal perfection.

Activities Make It Personal (and Way More Fun)

Planning activities that are unique to your relationship not only creates a super fun shoot, but it helps you relax and feel more comfortable in front of the camera, which always creates the best photos. Brennan and Neallie planned out a few activities that felt true to their relationship—and let me tell you, that made all the difference.

We recreated their sweet tradition of drawing love notes in the fogged-up bathroom mirror (with lipstick, of course), played with their two foster puppies on the patio (unbelievably cute), and staged a dramatic chess match where Neallie crushed Brennan (sorry not sorry). They danced under the disco ball, struck their go-to rebellious pose, and yes, the flame sunglasses made an appearance—Mayla wore them best of course.

Planning these activities ahead of time helped them relax, forget the camera was even there, and actually have fun. That’s what it’s all about. Instead of stiff, posed photos, we created something real, full of laughter, love, and true to who they are.

Let’s Plan Your Dream Photoshoot

When you book your couples shoot with me, I’ll help you brainstorm all the good stuff. Are there restaurants, bars, or parks in Austin that are special to you? Do you love doing crosswords together, taking Malort shots (you brave souls), or running along Ladybird Lake? Whatever your thing is—we’ll use it to shape a shoot that’s completely personal to you.

Activities aren’t just fun—they help you connect, get comfortable, and create photos that feel like little love letters to your relationship. This is your time capsule, your story, and I want it to feel like you on your best day.
